Placement tests can feel confusing — but preparation does not have to
Many students are capable readers and writers, but college placement tests ask for a specific kind of performance.
A placement reading test may require students to slow down, compare close answer choices, use evidence from the passage, understand vocabulary in context, and choose the best-supported answer.
A placement essay may require students to read a prompt, take a clear position, organize paragraphs, support ideas with examples, acknowledge another view when appropriate, and finish under timed conditions.
That is different from casual writing, ordinary worksheets, or a polished essay written over several days.
